They are found in all the ecozones of the Kruger Park, but more commonly seen in the southern half of the Park. They are particularly common in the eastern parts of the central and southern districts in the Satara, Tshokwane, Lower Sabie and Crocodile Bridge areas.
As lions are carnivores, the density is determined by the density of their prey species.
