What is the general behaviour of a Vervet Monkey?

As in the case of baboons the Vervet Monkeys are sociable and gregarious, and with a similar dominance hierarchy. Troop sizes are smaller, consisting of 15 to 25 individuals. It is believed that old males are chased from the troop and live the rest of their lives alone. Vervet monkeys are very cunning.

In the Kruger Park they are commonly seen at picnic spots where they quickly make off with food from visitors. They have learnt to associate humans with food because visitors fee them; unfortunately they may become aggressive and attack people to get at their food, and from time to time the monkeys have to be shot at these picnic spots.
