What are the major physical features of the Vervet Monkey?

Vervet monkeys are much smaller in build than baboons whereby males have a mass of about 5 kg and females slightly less. They are light grey in colour with relatively long tails, which are not prehensile like those of many of the New World monkeys.

Their faces are black and framed by an almost white line of fur, which makes them look like old men.

The exhibiting of a vivid blue scrotum and red penis is an important sexual manifestation in the male. He also displays his scrotum by parading around with the tail held high. A female on heat will display her swollen genitalia.
