Are cheetahs territorial?

Females live in overlapping home ranges, but will avoid contact with other females. Home ranges very in size according to the food supply. In the Kruger Park with its available food supply, ranges can be 100 to 200 kmsq. Males hold territories in which they monopolise access to females, and which they defend savagely. Male cheetah intruders may even be killed. Territorial males scent mark traditional sites on rocks and trees by spraying of urine and with cheek and chin glands. Females on heat attract males by the smell of their urine.
