Royal Hlane National Park, known locally as “Hlane” (meaning “wilderness” in siSwati), is Eswatini’s largest and most celebrated protected area, spanning an impressive 22,000 hectares in the northeast Lubombo region. Just a short drive from the South African border and Kruger National Park, Hlane offers a truly wild escape for nature lovers and adventure seekers.
Wildlife & Conservation
>Hlane is renowned for its rich biodiversity and is home to the iconic African Big Five: lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards, and buffaloes. The park boasts one of the highest concentrations of white rhinos in southern Africa, thanks to its successful conservation initiatives. Other residents include giraffes, zebras, hippos, warthogs, and a variety of antelope species such as kudu and impala. Bird enthusiasts will be delighted by over 300 recorded species, including the southern ground hornbill, bateleur eagle, and Africa’s highest density of nesting white-backed vultures.
